Kevlar rope for glass tempering furnaces
Excellent decision for glass industry Glass tempering is a glass processing procedure in which
raw glass is first heated to around 650°C and then rapidly cooled
back to room temperature. During the process a strong compression stress
develops in the surface layer, which increases the strength of the glass
and thereby its capacity to withstand impacts, bending and heat fluctuations
many times better than ordinary glass. When the glass is going out of
the furnace it is moved on roller transporter. Usually the rolls are made
from steel, but it is too hard and easily can damage the glass, can cause
to it unacceptable thermal sharks or colour points. To prevent that manufacturers
of machines use buffer product – ropes, which are rounded around
the steel roller and protect the glass and the transport rollers from
the problems |

| But the requirements to the used material are very high. It must hold on temperature fluctuations from cooled room temperature when there is no glass on it to the 650 C for the first rollers when the glass is still very hot. In the same time the material must be abrasive resistant, because the sharp edges of the glass can easily damage the rope. |
